Jordyn
Adalyn
These monthly pictures are getting harder to take now that Jordyn is mobile! This month has been nice and slow. We have had every Saturday home this January which is very rare in our house! Usually Kyle has an event or two going on at least one Saturday a month. The girls have been so fun to watch! Jordyn has come a long way with this moving! She started out scooting in her crib. She sleeps on her belly and tucks her legs under her butt. When she is tired she rubs her head back and forth on the mattress. When she would do this, she would scoot forward. We started laying her down at the other end but within a few minutes she'd be crying because her head was pushing up against the bars. She also kept leaning to the side and a few times a night she would wake up crying because her head was against the side rails. With Jordyn waking up so much we decided to break the crib rules and put a bumper pad in the crib. Gasp! I know, I know, those are no longer recommended but the people who no longer recommend them are not waking up several times a night removing my baby's head away from the hard rails! 😉 Also, I feel like she is old enough and mobile enough to move her head if she can't breathe. Since they do not sell bumper pads anymore, we made our own! It turned into a whole family project. We wanted to get it done before we left my mom's. Ashlan and I cut and measured. Ashlan worked on the ties and sewed some. Damon even helped! He figured out a fast way to turn the ties back right side out. Emily helped entertain the babies which was a job because Jordyn was cutting her first tooth! My mom was able to get it sewed up before we headed home the next day. She went ahead and made one for Adalyn too and mailed it to us! In case you are wondering what Kyle was up to...he had already headed home so he could teach Bible study the next day. TA-dA! Almost every night, Jordyn falls asleep with the top of her head touching the bumper. I''m so glad we have them! We had to lower the mattresses yesterday because Jordyn started doing this! She hasn't figured out how to stand but it's only a matter of time! Our living room has been taken over by the babies! My friend, Bethany, who has twins that are 8 months older than ours, recommended this baby gate pen thing. We had it set up in a circle (It came with 6 pieces) but ended up rearranging the living room to make more space. It drives me crazy with clutter but I like having a safe place for the girls to move where I can see them and play with them. Jordyn has a pretty effective crawl/face plant/scoot. She can get to the other side of the room in a matter of seconds if she wants! She loves these balls! They came with a Christmas toy her Aunt Michelle got her. She reaches for them and pushes them away while grabbing them. They make her move further! Adalyn is such a content baby! She loves to be on her belly. She pushes her toys away like she is trying to teach herself to move. She will get her legs kicking but hasn't quite figured out how to get them under her bottom. After a few minutes of trying she gets distracted by the designs in the blanket and plays with the blanket. Like I said, Adalyn loves designs! She is so observant. She likes the poles to her activity mat because of the fabric. She will sit pretty well holding onto the pole just staring and touching the design! It's probably great core strength too because if she starts to fall she pulls herself back up using the pole. Jordyn is obsessed with Adalyn's head. Neither of them have much hair, but Adalyn has a little more than Jordyn. I think Jordyn likes feeling it! She also likes to give her open mouth kisses on the head! She will just touch her lips to Adalyn's head and then pull her head away just like a kiss. It's the sweetest thing but hard to capture because it happens pretty quick! My mom bought both the girls their own WubbaNub when they were first born. Jordyn loves hers and uses it at naps and nighttime. Adalyn has been sucking her thumb the last several months and stopped taking a pacifier. A few weeks ago she reached for her WubbaNub so I gave it to her. She spit it out immediately and stuck her thumb in instead. She still reached for it and just held the elephant's leg. I cut the pacifier off of it and now she really loves the elephant! I went to get her up from a nap and this is how I found her, smile and everything! We were using the Bumbo seats as high chairs for the last few months. Jordyn has been very interested in my canisters! I got a text at school one day from Kyle saying, "Look what I did!" We decided it was time to break out the real high chairs! Adalyn still uses her Bumbo seat most of the time for a little extra sitting support. This picture just shows how I knew nothing about baby sizes before the girls were born! Ever since I had procedures done for Adalyn when I was 26 weeks pregnant I had a hospital bag packed just in case. I had these gowns packed as their going home outfit! They are size 0-6 months. My mom bought them the day she found out I was having girls! Obviously they were way too big when the girls were born but they fit great now! This month has been so exciting with all the new things the girls can do! I'll end this post with my new favorite picture! I'm not sure I'll ever be able top this picture! 2 babies smiling is very hard to capture!
