Jordyn
Adalyn
This month has been fun but also exhausting! With the exception of the first weekend in April, when we were in Springfield for my race, Kyle has been gone every weekend! This past week he was gone Wednesday morning through late Friday night. He left for an all day meeting yesterday so we just got to see him an hour in the morning and an hour before bedtime. The girls do okay for the most part. They are always super happy and cuddly when he comes back. The last few days they've been fussy and I can't help but wonder if they just miss their dad. The good news is we get him all day Monday and Tuesday this week since he has been working so much. 😊 The girls didn't get their daddy day the last two Fridays so I know they will love being home with him Monday. Grammy and Papa Mike got the girls these swings for Christmas. Kyle finally got them hung last week before he left. We've had one problem after another with getting them hung. The weather has been so nice and they LOVE the swings. They cry when you take them out if it is under 20 min! Even the cold days (50s) we go out and bundle up with blankets, coats, and hats. It's nice because our patio chairs are right in front so I just sit and push them. These swings have really saved my sanity some afternoons! The weather has really been beautiful this month! We've been outside almost every day! We go for runs, walks, the park, our play yard, and now our new swings. I moved the play yard gate thing to the patio. I have been taking advantage of the nice weather with no bugs! The kitchen is right next to the patio so I leave the door open and start supper while they play. The only problem is Jordyn tries to play with Adalyn but Adalyn is not ready for that and cries. She is at the stage Jordyn was a month or two ago. She likes exploring a little but Jordyn is often in her face. When Jordyn was exploring Adalyn wasn't moving and didn't bother her. My mom says it reminds her of Emily and me when we were little. Emily would try and crawl and I'd be behind her kissing her feet which would make her fall. Naps have gotten more challenging lately with Adalyn's new trick. We lowered her crib because she started pulling up and standing. She stands up and talks to Jordyn a good 20 min then cries. Some days they talk the whole morning nap and don't get one. I'm afraid my 2 naps a day are coming to an end. Now that the novelty has worn off, Jordyn lays down and goes to sleep when she is tired. Adalyn cries and yells and eventually gives up and goes to sleep too. In the morning, sometimes they wake up 30 min before I am ready for them to be awake. I sneak a few toys (stuffed doll and lovie blanket) in the crib at night. In the morning they just talk and play until I come in at 7. I remember when they were newborns and a friend telling me her twins, who are a year older, do that. I never thought the day would come for us! Jordyn showing off her new shoes Grammy bought her. My mom came up one weekend to help and took the girls to get their feet measured. Jordyn is a size 3 and Adalyn a size 2. When my mom was here she told me to move stuff to encourage Jordyn to walk while holding on to something. She loves standing and moving. I mentioned earlier she took her first step this month. One night before bed both girls were standing and holding Kyle's shoulders. Adalyn was in front of him and Jordyn behind. He was sitting on the floor up against the rocking chair in their room. I was putting laundry away and happened to be facing them. I saw Jordyn let go and just stand there. I was shocked by how long it was and later wished I had counted. Anyway, she saw the chair and took a step towards it. After the step she kinda fell towards the chair and regained her balance. We were ecstatic to both be there when it happened. Kyle was a little bummed because his back was to her and he didn't see it but saw my face. We tried getting her to do it again but she wasn't interested. These are the last pictures I'll talk about. My mom took this picture before she left and I couldn't get over how big they look! With there only being 1 month left before their birthday, I have been a little sentimental. I'm so ready to celebrate a year and all they have accomplished (and all we survived). 😉 At the same time, I have loved every stage and hate that they are growing so fast! I don't want to wish this last month as "babies" away! So here you go! A little growth comparison! Jordyn 3 weeks old and 10 1/2 months old Adalyn 4 weeks old and 10 1/2 months old. She looks bigger than Jordyn did because she was about a pound bigger than Jordyn when she went home. And because I know most people who read this really just want to see the pictures, here are a few. 😉

Jordyn
Moments like these definitely make up for the challenges 2 babies bring. Lately, when we put them down for naps or bed they have a giggle fest. Jordyn stands up and looks at Adalyn and Adalyn sits and looks at Jordyn through the bars. They laugh and jabber. Just the other day we put them down for an afternoon nap but they had other plans. We were in the living room and all of a sudden we heard giggling erupting from their room. Kyle went to peek at them and Jordyn was standing up laughing her head off at Adalyn who was on her back with her hands and legs in the air. Jordyn's laughter was making Adalyn bust out laughing. Kyle called me back to look and Adalyn had pulled herself up and was sitting looking at Jordyn through the bars. Jordyn is always amazing us with how strong and fearless she is! She is definitely our daredevil child. She pulls herself up on just about anything she can find. She even tries to turn and let go. She only lasts a few seconds, but one of these days she'll get it! She likes to start her naps off by scaling the perimeter of her crib. When she gets to a corner she turns and let's go and tries to take a step to the next ledge. One day it took her an hour to fall asleep because she was having so much fun walking the sides! Adalyn has always been a content baby. There isn't much that motivates her to move simply because she is happy doing anything. Adalyn also seems to be a bit cautious. I don't think she is scared to move, but just wants to be sure she can do it first. She gets up in the crawling stance and stays that way several minutes. It's like she knows her arms and core aren't strong enough yet so she just planks to work those muscles. 😊 When she decides to go forward, she looks like she is in the naked diaper picture above. She moves forward with her arms and stretches forward but then spreads her legs out like a frog and scoots. She is SO close! I might change my mind when both girls are completely on the move, but right now I am LOVING Jordyn being so mobile! One aspect of being mobile that I love is Jordyn can crawl down the hall by herself! I carry Adalyn back to their room and because Jordyn has to be where people are, she follows us! I close the bedroom and bathroom doors so she doesn't get distracted on the way down. 😉 The second aspect I love is she crawls to me when it's time to eat. I'm still nursing them but only 4 times a day now. Side note, I feel like I have so much freedom with only 4 feedings a day! Anyway, I'll sit down and start feeding Adalyn and Jordyn sees us and crawls over, pulls up on my leg, and waits for me to pull her up on my lap. She normally finishes first so she just scoots and slides off my lap. She'll just crawl and go back to playing. Both the girls love books. Jordyn likes to pull them all out of the cubbie and scatter them and put them in her mouth. Adalyn is like her daddy, and likes to focus on a book. The picture of Adalyn was taken right after Kyle left for a high school weekend retreat. I walked by and noticed the book and had to snap a picture to send Kyle. Adalyn had her first ear infection which was actually a double ear infection this month. Both girls had colds...again. Between the 2 girls, we didn't get a silent night once that week. They took turns waking up. Adalyn had a fussy night and a fussy day for our baby sitter. That night she slept and Jordyn took over keeping us up. I was home with the girls the next day and Adalyn was unusually fussy. The only time she was not crying was if I was holding her or if she was in the jumperoo. I called the doctor since we were going out of town the following week. The nurse said her first thought was ear infection but since she slept well the night before it was probably just a cold. Well, she was very fussy so I took her in. Sure enough, it was a double ear infection. She also had acute bronchiolitis. We got medicine and after 36 hours she was back to her happy self. While Adalyn was sick, Kyle and Jordyn went to the store to get Pedialyte. While they were there they had a little daddy-daughter date. Kyle bought some gelato and let her have some. She LOVED it of course. I love the pictures he sent me. She looks like she knows she is doing something special. Our birthday was March 8th. We turned 28 and 30 this year. We like to joke that if you live in the Alt house, you have to share a birthday with someone. We both had the day off work and were able to enjoy it as a family. We had a mostly free breakfast at Denny's, paid a visit to the DMV, went for a walk with the girls, and went out to eat. Our friend Millie is a huge blessing to us and offered to watch the girls for free so we could go out on a birthday date. She has been a huge blessing to us and the girls! We and the girls are so thankful for Millie! We enjoyed our first Easter with the girls! The girls got a package from their Aunt Michelle and Aunt Heather with Easter goodies. They got those adorable bunny ears too. We spent the morning at church and the afternoon at our pastor's house. Our pastor and his wife do not have family in the area so they invite others that do not have family in the area over for an Easter lunch. We love spending the day with friends and celebrating the hope we have in the resurrection of Jesus! We also enjoyed starting new traditions with the girls. We had a little Easter egg hunt in our living room. We gave Adalyn a head start and she found the jack pot! The eggs had puffs and cheerios in them. We also attempted to paint eggs but it turned out to be pretty dangerous with all that dye. Oh well...next year...maybe. I took the girls grocery shopping the weekend Kyle was gone. It's a good thing we didn't have a huge list that week otherwise we'd be out of space! Over spring break we made a surprise trip to Arizona to see Ashlan. Her friends Charissa and Gavin arranged the whole thing. They even found us pack-n-plays for the girls and were able to get time off work for Ashlan. The girls did pretty good on the flight. Our flight there was delayed 2 hours so we didn't take off until 11 pm. Because there are only four oxygen masks in each row of three seats, you can only have one lap passenger per row. My mom took a baby and I had another baby. Kyle forfeited sleepy cuddly baby rights to ensure he wouldn't get stuck holding a screaming fussy baby! My mom sat in the row in front of us and Kyle was behind her and served as the middleman to help us swap babies if needed. The couple that sat next to my mom was not the greatest for babies. The lady was excited about sitting next to a baby but her fiancé was not! When she sat down, she looked at Adalyn and shook her finger and said, "You better be good or my fiancé is going to be mad at me!" Right on cue, Adalyn started crying. Every time she looked at the lady she would cry. 😂 4 crazy things happened on the flights 1. The spare bottle exploded milk everywhere due to pressure. Kyle picked up the bag at one point and realized it was covered in milk! Half the bottle leaked out the sides! 2. I asked Kyle to hand me my water bottle. The water bottle is the kind with a straw and when you push a button the mouth opens out. Being the sweet husband he is, he opened it for me. Water sprayed out like a geyser all over Kyle. He quickly hands it to me while water is still shooting out getting all over me. I quickly close the lid and unscrew it. Our butts were wet the whole flight! 3. This part is probably over sharing but after a year and a half of no period my body decides a plane ride in which I have NO supplies is a great time to start back up again! 4. If you were wondering if we had better luck on the return trip the answer is not really. The girls seemed better and I was more relaxed but the girl next to me was traveling by herself. She was nervous and puked all over her lap before take off. We felt bad for her and she felt really embarrassed and sorry for us. Thankfully I have babies and had wipes and trash baggies. She was able to clean herself up but the air does not circulate on a plane! On the bright side we made it there and back and now have a story to tell 😉 We landed in Phoenix around 1 in the morning. Ashlan's friend Charissa picked us up and took us to see Ashlan. Ashlan was of course asleep. We brought all our luggage to Ashlan's 3rd story. We had her friend call Ashlan and wake her up so she would hear us knocking. She didn't answer at first because she was so tired and just wanted to sleep. She finally picked up and Charissa told her she forgot to give her something when they met earlier. Ashlan came to the door and saw mom, the girls, Kyle, and me. She said, "What? Why?" Needless to say, she was very surprised! My mom's cousin from Colorado happened to be in the Phoenix area as well and came by for a visit. We spent the first day touring Ashlan's church and meeting her friends and co-workers. Her church is pretty awesome! The second day we were able to get out and go for a little hike. The girls did great and even fell asleep on the way down. Arizona was having a cold front the 2 days we were there so we got to enjoy beautiful, sunny, upper 60s - lower 70s weather! And this is the picture I am going to leave you with this month. Don't be fooled this April fool's, Adalyn does the same thing to Jordyn. Adalyn is just better about not getting caught on camera!
