We had the girls' first birthday party in Springfield at my home church, Lakeside Christian Church. We had a very busy weekend! Our friend Daniel got married and my sister, Ashlan, was ordained! We decided to throw a birthday party the same weekend since all my out-of-state family were together! Picture from Ashlan's ordination! We are so proud of her and the work God has called her to do in Arizona! We were at the church from 10:15am-5:00pm on the day of the party. I mentioned already that Ashlan was ordained that day, too. The girls took a nap in the nursery while Ashlan's service went on and while we were decorating. I was hoping they'd sleep until the start of the party but they woke up 30 minutes early. They were super super happy but everyone missed it! When people started arriving they were pretty good about letting others hold them but also fussed. This is Addie holding Adalyn. Addie is one of my mom's former daycare kids. We recently discovered that Jordyn likes guys... I know we're going to be in trouble someday! There have been several occasions were a female tries holding her and she cries and wants us. Minutes later a man will take her and she cuddles up to them! At the wedding, Brad was playing with her and she was playing coy. When he left she looked all around for him. Whenever she would see him she would sheepishly burry her head in our shoulders and act shy. It was hilarious. Christen was joking with her that Brad was taken. The next day at the party their son Brayden held her and she LOVED it! Right before this picture was taken 3 girls tried holding her and she cried. Brayden tried and she was calm! He was SO good with her! My family was so great with helping me make the decorations! The tassel banner was a group effort. Kyle was the string man and tied off all the finished tassels and then hung them on one string. Damon got recruited to help cut and make the tassels along with my mom and Ashlan. Emily was working on cupcakes! I bought sparkly paper and used the machine at school to cut the letter for the word, "ONE". Ashlan also spray painted the little clothes pins for me. My mom had them on hand but they were red. Here is the link to the tassel banner.www.thetomkatstudio.com/2013/01/howtomaketasselgarland It was after midnight the night before the party and we were just finishing picking up our mess from making the tassel banner. Ashlan decided the girls needed a cute pink and gold cake holder. She took two paper plates and these little solo cups my mom had for her home daycare crafts and she made a cake holder. She used gold spray paint on the cups then hot glued them to the plate. I told her she was a great aunt and sister! I made the stats boards after seeing how much it would cost to buy 2 on esty plus having them printed to poster size. I bought hard poster board at Hobby Lobby with their 40% off coupon. I found the markers at Hobby Lobby as well but later found them way cheaper at Walmart. They were called Painters markers. I did a lot of practice on construction paper before I did it on the real boards. I have never liked my handwriting but was happy with how they turned out! Kyle was in charge of the big 1 collage! We saw a bunch on Pinterest and he came up with this! The pictures were mostly a progression from when the were born to now. I loved how it turned out! The high chairs were done my my mom. She bought one high chair for future grandchildren before she found out I was pregnant. She painted it a gender neutral color. I found a second high chair at a garage sale this spring and she decided to repaint the old chair and the new one to go with the "golden" birthday theme. (Girls were born June 1st) The backdrop idea came from Pinterest.rainonatinroof.com/2014/06/easy-party-backgrounds-10-less/ It was super easy! You buy whatever color plastic table clothes you want and stack them on top of each other. Then you attach them to the wall. The tutorial I read had you pin them but I didn't think the church would be okay with that! The room we were at had garage doors as their doorway. We opened the door halfway and used duct tape to hold the table clothes up. Then we cut strips up to the top. You braid it at the top to keep the pieces scattered and in place. Our lines were super wiggly but you couldn't tell once it was braided. We did a smash cake for their 1 year old pictures but decided to do it again at the party. Who doesn't enjoy watching babies discover cake, right?! My sister, Emily made a "healthy" cake with unhealthy icing. Here is the recipe for the cake. www.oheverythinghandmade.com/recipe-healthy-babys-first-cake/ Jordyn loving her cake! Adalyn and her cake. The top is covered in sprinkles because when my sister was sprinkling the cake, a huge glob fell out and brought a bunch of sprinkles with it! Oops! My friend Manning came to the party. We have been friends our entire lives! Sometime around the age of 9 or 10 we started putting giant numbers on the left side of birthday cards to each other. I can't remember how it started but it stuck and we still do it today. Manning made a giant 1 in the girls' card and passed on the tradition. Also, this picture shows the soccer balls Aunt Ashlan got the girls. They had fun throwing them off their high chairs. The kids at the party would pick them up and give them back to the girls. I am opening a fun water gift from the Owen family while the girls are checking out the dolls they got from Grammy and Papa Mike. Jordyn's doll has blue eyes like her's and Adalyn's doll has brown! Kyle's dad got the girls a touch and feel book for Christmas. They both LOVE that book and will fight over it! He got them their own noisy farm touch and feel book for their birthday! They both fussed when we took them away to open the next gift! My dad and Michelle got the girls got their own running outfits so they can go running with me! Jordyn got pink and Adalyn purple. I use pink and purple to tell their pacifiers and sippy cups apart. Having twins is a blast but it is also exhausting, so celebrating this big milestone of turning 1 was a lot of fun for us! Thank you all who were there helping us celebrate and thank you all who help us on a daily basis! Having support from family and friends makes this journey great!
